6 Things to Watch Out for When Printing Your Wedding Invitations at Home Utterly Printable

There is no denying that weddings are expensive. It is natural to want to cut down on costs wherever possible, and sometimes you simply cannot afford all the things that you would truly love. Printing your own wedding invitations is one great way to save money, and we here at Utterly Printable fully support you in your choice to print at home. In fact, every single one of our personalised wedding invites is available in a download-only format for the cost of just £12.50. This means you have a high-resolution PDF to print from at home. However, there are certain things you should look out for and be aware of to ensure you get the results you want.

1. Template

There are loads of templates on our website, in every different style you can think of. For the traditionalist amongst you, we have a great range of classic wedding invitation designs. If you’re looking for something more contemporary, then we have our range of modern wedding invites. And of course, we have our always popular floral wedding invitation designs for you to look through. Our download-only designs take all the stress out of putting together a bespoke wedding invitation template.

2. Consider the Layout

Designs that go right to the edge of the page are called full bleed designs. Home printers aren’t really designed to cope with these. They may be nice to look at but if your printer isn’t up to the job you’re going to be cutting and trimming the invites to try and make it look perfect. This can be frustrating and end up taking way more time than you bargained for. Fortunately, we supply all of our download-only orders in bleed and no-bleed formats. So that’s nice.

3. High Quality Paper is Vital

There are so many different places online that you can buy paper, from different card stock, and with many different colours and finishes from cotton paper and eco-friendly to shimmer and Luxe. It’s unlikely that you just want to send your wedding invitations out on standard A4 paper so have a good look and pick somewhere that also sells matching envelopes as this will also save you a lot of heartache. If you’d like an idea of what premium card looks like, you can get more information on the premium card stocks we print on here. As a top tip though, do have a google for your model of home printer to make sure that it can handle thick card stocks (measured in GSM).

4. Proofread: More Than Once

The best thing to do is get someone else to read them for you before you print. Writers will tell you that seeing their own mistakes on the page is much harder than seeing someone else’s. Your brain makes corrections because it knows what you meant to say. Simple spelling mistakes are going to lead to disappointment if you’ve already printed all 150 before noticing.

5. Consider the Font

Not all computers are capable of working with all fronts. Adobe Acrobat is a powerful editing tool, and while you may not be familiar with it, it offers you a lot more in the way of fonts. Another note about the font is to be sure that it is readable. Script fonts are very pretty and perfect for names, but key information needs to be clear and concise otherwise someone could turn up on the wrong day at the wrong time. Fortunately for Utterly Printable customers, all of our wedding invitation designs are delivered as “flattened” PDFs. This means that, as far as your printer is concerned, it is just printing an image file…so nothing to worry about!

6. Be Sure You Are Saving Money

Home printers are expensive, they go through coloured ink really quickly. You need to take this into consideration when working out how many invitations you’re going to be printing. Sadly, you may think you are saving money, but it actually could turn out to be a false economy if you have to buy way more ink cartridges than you bargained for. Printing your own invitations can be very successful as long as you do the groundwork. And if you decide against printing at home, don’t worry! We offer an extremely affordable wedding invitation printing service which we know you’ll love!
