Brightness and contrast

Screens are backlit, paper isn’t. Lighten slightly if a photo feels dim, gently lift shadows, and avoid ultra-saturated filters. Watch black suits and dark hair—nudging mid-tones up preserves detail without making whites look grey.

Colour and file formats

Export photos as high-quality JPEGs in sRGB for the safest, most predictable colour on digital presses. PNG is fine for graphics or logos; TIFFs are usually unnecessary for cards. Avoid screenshots or images sent via messaging apps—they’re often compressed.

Cropping and safe areas

Keep key faces a comfortable distance from the edges, and avoid placing tiny details tight to the border; a small trim is normal in print production. For type-over-photo layouts, leave a calm area (e.g., sky or a clean wall) so your message remains legible.
